Description:
Yellow flower heads on branches of a smooth or slightly rough stem.
Flowers:
Head 2 1/2-3 1/2" wide; rays 9-15.
Leaves:
3-8" long, mostly opposite, ovate to broadly lanceolate, shallowly tooth or untoothed, rough above, pale to whitish and somewhat hairy below.
Fruit:
Height:
3-7'.
Flowering:
August-September.
Habitat:
Woods, thickets, and clearings.
Comments:
This is one of about 20 species of helianthus with yellow disk flowers in our range.
