In 1949, by an act of the state
Legislature, Cottage Farm Bridge was renamed the Boston University Bridge.
The old name, Cottage Farm, was the name of the farm area in Brookline that
covered the neighborhood near Prescott, Mountford, St.. Mary, and Ivy streets,
An English-type cottage, was at the corner of the Ivy and Carlton streets.
The bridge was designed by Andrew Canzanelli, who also designed the Weeks
footbridge and the first shell built on the Esplanade.It was built in 1930 and replaced
the Brookline Bridge a wooden draw bridge built in 1851Concrete and Steel Bridge
with a Railroad Bridge running Underneath
